CDCOT Study Tour To Ben Tre, Viet Nam
A group of 34 members led by Vice Chairman of Conservation and Development of Coconut Oil of Thailand (CDCOT), Ms. Peyanoot Naka visited Coconut Industry in Vietnam on 22-25 November 2017, on the occasion of 10 year-anniversary of CDCOT establishment. The programme of this study visit to Vietnam was conducted after getting approval from the Committee of CDCOT. The first day, 22 November 2017, the delegates visited an Orchid for plantlet and Makapuno producing Plant (Anh Dao Science Technology Agriculture Joint Stock Company) in Ho Chi Minh. Technical Advisor, Mrs. Ngo Thi Kiew Daung, welcomed the delegates and they had an opportunity to see Makapuno laboratory and the actual Makapuno trees planted 5 years ago and now have many fruits. The Company proudly presented that 10,000 Makapuno seedlings have been produced every year. The second day, 23 November 2017, The delegates travelled to Ben Tre province and visited 2 different places. 1) Dongo Coconut Research Center visit in which the delegates were welcomed by Chairman of Ben Tre Coconut Association and Ex CEO of Betrimex Factory. The delegates were interested in coconut planting technique and impressed with coconut intercropping using pomelo and others. 2) Betrimex factory visit, which is one of biggest coconut water producers in Vietnam using Tetra Pak technology and has Desiccated Coconut plant. In this occasion the delegates witnessed the shipment of coconuts as raw materials from the boat in the riverbank to the factory. Then they have a chance to see hygienic processing line of white meat preparation as raw material for DC processing. The third day, 24 November 2017, the delegates visited Luong Quoi coconut Co., Ltd. Ben Tre, which is the biggest coconut oil producer in Vietnam which used cold press and centrifuge system. The factory is now installing Tetra Pak technology for coconut beverage processing. The Managing Director said that the coconut water processing factory is ready to start production within this year. The delegates had impressive experiences from this trip and thanked to CDCOT and Vietnam programme facilitator and wish CDCOT to organize the program of study visit to other coconut industries next years.
